Hugh Warwick is an ecologist and writer with a particular fondness for hedgehogs. He has authored numerous books about wildlife and conservation. His first book about hedgehogs was A Prickly Affair, a thoroughly charming and uniquely eccentric global story of hog lore. After two more books on hedgehogs, Hugh wrote an entertaining account of some of the UK's most beloved animals in The Beauty in the Beast. In Linescapes, published in 2017, Hugh explores the far-reaching ecological consequences of the lines we have created in the countryside, such as hedges, walls, ditches, and dykes that have transformed and fragmented our landscape. In his latest book, Cull of the Wild, Hugh examines the practical and ethical challenges faced by conservationists as they try to combat one of the greatest threats to biodiversity: invasive species.
In addition to writing, Hugh runs day-long courses on hedgehog conservation and also lectures in creative writing. He is the spokesperson for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
